Ekaterina Gordeyeva and Valery Bure Win Canadian Battle of the Blades
Nov 24, 2010
Two-time Olympic champion Yekaterina Gordeeva and world famous hockey player Valery Bure have been named this season's winners in CBC TV’s Battle of the Blades, Voice of Russia reports.
Gordeyeva and Bure were selected from among eight pairs taking part in eight weeks of incredible performances and tremendous showmanship displayed in this ice extravaganza – already the second in as many years. In the final skate the Russian pair won high marks with a romance-infused composition titled From Russia with Love.
The pair won in a tough three-way race that included performances by two other pairs — Isabelle Brasseur and Todd Warriner and Shae-Lynne Bourne and Patrice Brisebois, CBC reports. "I got paired off with Katia, one of the best skaters ever," Bure said after the win. "Anybody that you put next to her, she’s going to make them look great. I just got lucky to be [the] chosen one."
Their win earns $100,000 for Gordeeva's choice of charity Cardiac Kids and Bure's choice, Compassion Canada. The competition began with eight pairs of stars from the world of figure skating and ice hockey.
