Leaders of Russia and South Korea to Discuss Cooperation

South Korean President Lee Myung-bak will visit Russia on September 9-10 to meet with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev, ITAR-TASS reports. The South Korean leader will attend the second World Political Forum in Yaroslavl and will deliver a keynote speech. The summit will take place on the sidelines of the forum on September 10. This will be the fourth meeting of the two countries’ presidents.
Presidents Medvedev and Lee plan to discuss the ways to strengthen strategic partnership between Russia and South Korea that will mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations in September.
They will also exchange opinions on problems of regional security and stronger cooperation on issues of mutual concern, including the G-20 summit in Seoul in November, Russia’s economic modernization and joint development of energy and natural resources, mainly in Eastern Siberia.
At the conference in Yaroslavl Lee will share South Korea’s fast economic development experience. He plans to confirm South Korea’s intention to help Russia modernize its economy, the president’s press service said.
