Sep 8, 2010
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov of Russia have met with French President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris on Tuesday, Russia’s ITAR-TASS news agency reports. Later in the day, Lavrov and Serdyukov are due to sit down for parleys with their French counterparts Bernard Kouchner and Herve Morin to grapple with security issues.
In a statement on Tuesday, the French Foreign Ministry, in turn, touted the two countries’ collaboration which is specifically implemented within the framework of the Russian-French Security Cooperation Council.
The statement was echoed by President Sarkozy, who earlier signaled his country’s readiness to continue to boost what he called ‘an unprecedented partnership to add to the Euro-Atlantic security’.
Separately, Sarkozy pledged to contribute to a thaw in ties between Russia, the EU and NATO.
