Sep 3, 2010
Author Vladimir Sorokin and translator Gennady Kiselev have been awarded the Russian-Italian Gorky Prize, ITAR-TASS reports. The official awards ceremony took place September 2 in Moscow.
The Gorky Prize was established in 2008 with the aim of expanding Russian-Italian cultural dialog in literature and translation of literary works. The first awards ceremony was held in 2009 on the island of Capri, where the Russian classic Maxin Gorky spent many years of his life.
The competition is split into two categories: writers and translators. The first group includes Russian and Italian authors whose works were translated into the corresponding language. The second group includes translators who translated works from Russian to Italian or vice versa.
