The Russian debutante ball was held in Sydney. Its participants were graduates of the Alexander Nevsky Russian School and other guests. The event revived the traditions of pre-revolutionary Russian balls, the Edinenie newspaper reports.

The ball became the 51st for the school, which is the largest in the Australian state of New South Wales. The school stressed that graduates become ''part of Australia’s intelligent elite.''

According to statistics announced by the guest of the ball, Australian politician Jackie Munro, about 80% of Russian youth in Sydney choose to obtain a university degree, acquiring professions of teachers, doctors, engineers, and lawyers.

The Russian-style ball brought together 450 people - Russian compatriots and Australians. The event was attended by graduates of the Russian school of previous years, Australian politicians, and the head of the State Federation of Ethnic Schools, Lucia Jones.
