The 2nd edition of the Russian Primary Chronicle, also known as The Tale of Bygone Years, has released in Paris in the French translation, TASS reports. The first one came out in 2008. The earliest surviving Russian chronicle was translated into French by the famous historian Jean-Pierre Arrignon.

The scientist studied the manuscript for many years. He passed away last year. His widow Zoe Arrignon is convinced that anyone interested in Russian history should read the book. According to her, the first edition of the Chronicle sold out instantly.

Zoya Arrignon added that Jean-Pierre Arrignon often discussed the Chronicle with his colleague from Ukraine, Academician Petro Tolochko. Scholars agreed that Kyiv's rejection of a joint Russian-Ukrainian history is unacceptable. It is necessary that people understand that by refusing a common past, a common culture, they renounce themselves.

Jean-Pierre Arrignon was considered one of the most prominent researchers of Russian history in the West. The professor taught at leading French universities, was a member of the scientific councils of national research centers. He was a member of the Institute for Advanced Studies in National Defense.

Jean-Pierre Arrignon not only wrote historical works, but also introduced the French to the Russian culture. Besides the Chronicle, he also translated "Journey Beyond the Three Seas" by Afanasy Nikitin.

In the fall of 2020, Jean-Pierre Arrignon's latest work, ''History of Russia,'' was released. The publisher called this work "a global study by an undeniable specialist." For merits in the field of scientific research and education, Arrignon was awarded The Order of Academic Palms.
