Sergei Yesenin Prize awarded in India

Indian writers and translators have received the Sergei Yesenin Prize at the 12th All-India Festival of Russian Language, Literature and Culture, which took place in Trivandrum. The prize, named after the prominent Russian poet of the beginning of the 20th century, has been awarded since 2009 for the popularization of Russian literature in India; the founders of the award are the Russian House in Trivandrum and the Moscow State Museum of Sergei Yesenin.

Russian diplomats, Indian politicians, public and cultural figures, teachers of Russian studies, researchers of Russian literature, students of local universities and residents of the state of Kerala became the guests of the ceremony.

The Sergei Yesenin Prize was awarded to the famous Indian writer, poet and translator Ven Desam, who translated into Malayalam works by Sergei Yesenin, Leo Tolstoy, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Anton Chekhov and other Russian classics.

After the ceremony, the guests saw the ''Eight  Rooms. Yesenin's Keys" documentary, filmed with the assistance of the Moscow Yesenin Museum and the Russkiy Mir Foundation.
