The solemn ceremony of presenting the Sergei Yesenin Prize took place in the capital of the South Indian state of Kerala, the Rossotrudnichestvo website reports. It was held within the framework of the annual Festival of the Russian language, literature and culture, which opened for the 11th time. Over the years, the ceremony has become a notable event in the cultural life of the city of Trivandrum.

This year the award was given to Dr. Govindan Nair, who previously headed the Department of Russian Language at the University of Kerala. He was noted for the book "Sergei Yesenin - Life and Work". The publication came out this year with the assistance of the representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Trivandurma.

The ceremony was attended by Indian political and public figures, representatives of the local intelligentsia, fans of Russian literature. They were joined by teachers of Russian as a foreign language, students and teachers of local universities.

The Festival of the Russian Language, Literature and Culture started the day before with the opening of an exhibition of photographs. It presents portraits of the classics of Russian literature of the last century. Among the exhibits there are more than 50 pictures. Images of Chekhov, Gorky, Yesenin, Bunin, Mayakovsky, Akhmatova, Yevtushenko, Abramov and many others are presented to the public.
