Russian hockey players won the Olympic gold for the first time in the modern history, IA Champion reports. They beat the Germans 4:3. The game was not easy, though neither experts nor hockey fans had expected the Germans to get to the finals, beating the Canadian team.

The game which took place on 25th of February in Gangneung ended with overtime. Vyacheslav Voynov scored once and Nikita Gusev twice, with Kirill Kaprizov delivering the final goal.

At their medal ceremony, the players sang the Russian anthem over the sound of the Olympic anthem despite being barred from having their flag raised or anthem played.

It’s the first time that Russian hockey players climbed to the top of the Olympic podium, though the USSR United team had done so seven times before. This gold medal was the second one won by the Russianы. Note that Alina Zagitova had won the top award in women’s single figure skating.
