White Nights Stars festival dedicated to Stravinsky

Igor Stravinsky. Portrait by Jacques- Émile Blanche. 191525th White Nights Stars festival opens today in Saint Petersburg. This year the event is conducted in Mariinsky Theater. Since it coincides with 135th anniversary of Igor Stravinsky, the festival is dedicated to this genious composer, RIA Novosti reports.

The program comprises highlights along with rarely played Stravinsky's pieces.

Not only the music will be on White Nights Stars festival-s agenda. Several exhibitions devoted to composer's heritage present unique archived documents and pictures. The most engaging one introduces costumes used in The Rite of Spring and Petrushka ballets. This costumes were made using the sketches of Nikolay Rerikh and Alexander Benua.
