Pushkin State Russian Language Institute opens its department today at the capital of Cuba, TASS reports. It will be opened at the premises of University of Havana, one of the oldest higher educational institutions of Latin America. As per the Institute workers, the department’s mission is to develop Russian studies at Cuba from the point of view of education, methodology and science.

The gala opening ceremony of department will become an integrated part of the Forum for Rectors of Russian and Cuban universities organized in Havana these days.

Pushkin State Russian Language Institute will delegate three professors to Cuba each term to teach students of foreign languages’ department. At present about eighty people study Russian language at the university. They study for six years, after that they get a bachelor’s degree.

Currently, all students of the department are provided with new studying materials on Russian language, literature and history of Russia. A workbook was prepared for the Cuban students as well. The department was equipped with computers connected to Education in Russian internet portal. This will provide an opportunity to get an access to all e-studying materials without Internet connection.

It should be reminded that the First National Conference devoted to Russian language and Russian culture started in Havana the day before. The event is organized by Association of Linguists at Cuba. The Association invited more than one hundred Russian philologists, translators and teachers as well as students studying Russian language at Havana University to attend the two-day Forum held in the Institute of Literature and Linguistics of Cuba.
