Orthodox hierarchies made a decision to include the names of the European Saint Martyrs living before 1054 (The date of the final church split into Roman – Catholic and Orthodox) into the ecclesiastical calendar at the Russian Orthodox Church Holy Synod session the day before, according to IA Interfax.

Thus, more than a dozen of Saints living in the period before the East – West Schism of 1054 will be included into the ecclesiastical calendar. The patron saint of Ireland Saint Patrick (Patriky) is among these names. The orthodox Christians will start celebrating the St. Patrick’s Day on March 30.

Vladimir Legoida commented that metropolitans and Patriarch Kirill took into consideration faultlessness of their faith, first of all, and how much the orthodox believers living in Europe worship these Saints.

The Day of St. Patrick, who lived in IV – V centuries, has been lately celebrated in Russia very widely. Religious processions and celebrations take place in Moscow and other Russian cities.
