Debates over Grigory Rasputin in Grenada

26.12.2016

On 20 December, the Russian Center operating in Granda hosted a lecture and debates dealing with Grigory Rasputin as part of the implemented program of lectures and round-table sessions dedicated to Russia’s history. The topic to be discussed was chosen not coincidentally as 30 December is the day of the 100th anniversary since Grigory Rasputin’s assassination.

The meeting started with a lecture on the historical and social context of the époque delivered by the head of the Department of Slavonic Philology Simón José Suárez Cuadros. After that, a coordinator at the Russian Center Doctor of Philology Benami Barros told the guests of the event about one of Grigory Rasputin’s murderers Prince Felix Yusupov. The materials on him were provided by ProfessorMichael Nicholson working at University College in Oxford. At the end of the meeting the participant of the event watched some fragments from various screen versions dealing with Grigory Rasputin, including a TV series Grogiry R.

The meeting ended with a hot discussion in which over 50 people took part, which proved again that Granada residents are very interested in the Russian language and Russian culture.
