Andrei Konchalovsky Presents Musical “Crime and Punishment”

Michil Shvydkoy, Director of the Musical Theatre, says the opera was written 35 years ago but director Andrei Konchalovsky and composer Eduard Artemyev managed to create a new production based on the old version of the opera.

Michil Shvydkoy says there were some concerns that a famous novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky could hardly been presented in form of rock-opera but the authors managed to do that. The audience is anticipating the opening night and at the moment “people buy tickets for performances scheduled for May”, he said adding that there are a lot of young people among the audience who were supposed to be a focus group the musical was made for.

Michil Shvydkoy thinks the rock-opera might restore the tradition of public discussions and he plans to arrange one engaging both the actors and the audience in it “sometime in May after a Saturday performance”.
